Thomas Byczkowski, is a Hamburg-based photographer, author, and journalist whose work centers on refuge, trauma, and the search for home. Stemming from his own refugee family background, he documents how people cope with loss due to war or disaster. Notable projects include a year-long documentation in Brazil after the 2015 Rio Doce mining disaster and an exhibit on lithium mining in Portugal.
